About
Hello, I’m Dr. Ford McCurry.
I am originally from East Tennessee but have lived in multiple states throughout my life including Kentucky, Indiana, and California. I was recruited to play collegiate baseball at Berea College in Berea, KY. The atmosphere at Berea College was unique and helped influence my life in many ways. It encouraged the value of responsibility, openness, and learning. Berea College is one of nine federally recognized work colleges in the nation, meaning every student holds a labor position that helps pay for the cost of education. After college, I returned to Tennessee where I earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Criminal Justice & Criminology and worked full-time. I eventually returned to the state of Kentucky for a doctoral program at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky where I completed a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Psychology and Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.)
My clinical training and education helped shape my approach, framework, and foundation. However, the experience I gained previous to my current career had an invaluable impression on who I am today. One of the differences that I believe adds a different understanding and perspective to my clinical work is that I understand life outside of the classroom, academic research, and textbooks on theory. Working in the blue-collar field of construction, I understand what it is like to be on a jobsite before the sun comes up with steel-toed boots, hard hat, and equipment in hand, while most businesses have not yet opened their doors. The long hours in the heat of summer, cold of winter, and being able to adapt to unexpected changes in the course help expand work ethic and grit that people possess within them. My private practice is a cumulative environment that draws from higher education and training, clinical experience, blue-collar grit, and the patient-focused treatment within the medical field.
I am married to Dr. Karen McCurry who is also a clinical psychologist (top 3 best rated psychologists in Louisville for 7 years in a row). I spend my free time with my wife and two stepsons. Free time consists of sports with my two stepsons, carpool, working out, finding good places for food, visiting my family in East Tennessee, college football, self-growth, and seeking the outdoors. I like mornings with a cup of coffee and a view.
